Peace Advocates Restore Learning and Strengthen Community Cooperation in West Nile

In 2025, communities, Peace Advocates, and duty bearers worked together to resolve land conflicts that were disrupting service delivery in Tokuro, Ngaziku, and Ombechi Primary Schools.

Through structured documentation and mediation, Peace Advocates identified conflict situations affecting access and utilization of education services in the three facilities. These issues were addressed through collaboration between affected communities and local authorities.

Restoring Stability at Tokuro Primary School

At Tokuro Primary School, teaching and learning had been disrupted due to deteriorating relations over school land used for farming by teachers. A community member had persistently claimed ownership of part of the school land, creating tension and intimidation.

Peace Advocates, working alongside local authorities and community members, facilitated mediation with the claimant. On October 1st, 2025, the land dispute was successfully resolved.

Beyond resolving the land issue, Peace Advocates also engaged local authorities regarding the lack of safe and clean water for the school and surrounding community. As a result, the school was connected to a local piped water network, improving both learning conditions and community well-being.

Resolving Land Disputes at Ngaziku Primary School

In Ngaziku Primary School, two families sought to reclaim land previously offered to the school by their grandfather due to growing family needs. The dispute threatened school operations and community relations.

Peace Advocates escalated the matter and worked closely with the District Senior Land Management Officer and the Sub-County Chairperson of Uriama. Two mediation meetings held on September 17th and a follow-up session on September 30th, 2025, facilitated directly by MACCO, led to a successful resolution.

Both families withdrew their claims and restored the land to the school. Teaching and learning now continue without disruption.
